September 4, 2006 - 11:53 AM Bath Pony Mini TrialHello!I have not blogged in a while, but yesterday our Pony Club had it's mini trial! We followed Sydney around all day and helped her out. Sydney had an ok dressage test, but Victor freaked out when he saw some flowers. Ending up in fourth after that, she went right to the show jumping ring, and went clean, and then ended up in second place. We then lounged around and sold junior board horse treats. Sydney got a fortune cookie with a fortune that said "obsticles cannot hold you back!" The photo is Sydney having a great ride. Sydney went clean cross-country but went through the water wrong and unfortunatly was eliminated. Details! Beezie Madden did great at the World Equestrian Games. She was in line to get the gold medal but on the last jump, she pulled a rail. She still did great, and she got a silver medal! That's all to say today, bye! @ndy |

August 28, 2006 - 8:30 PM World Equestrian Games - EventingNow that show season has slowed down because of school, I should be able to blog more often. We'll see.Sydney, Lindsey, Meredith, and Emily all went to last weekend's mini trial. Lindsey, I think, won her division (yay!), and Meredith got 6th. Sydney got ninth, which was a big step up from her Dressage. I'm not sure how Emily did. If you read this Emily post it in the comments. Happy day for all of you! I wish I was there too. The latest from the World Equestrian Games- the USA won a Bronze in Eventing! Yay! Amy Tryon won the bronze individual medal in eventing, and then the highest US place after that was 14th. Dressage went okay too; I think we might have also gotten a fourth place, from Stephen Peters in Dressage. The pic is of Amy Tryon. Back to my own world equestrian games at home, I jumped a difficult jump on the center line, facing B and E. It was tough, but the point was to use my outside rein. My goal is get myself to some jumper shows. @ndy |

August 25, 2006 - 5:05 PM Red and Andy Back to SchoolI jumped today on Red. It was fun, but we still have lots to learn! Red likes to launch jumps so I have to really collect him and half halt and sit back. I've gotten a lot better at not catching him in the mouth if he takes a long spot, or jump ahead of him.

August 16, 2006 - 5:46 PM Enjoying Up to the End...A few wonderful days left before school....I had a fun ride today, we worked over ground pole sets around the arena, and getting Red to stretch his stride out was difficult! Sometimes this stuff is challenging, but mostly it's fun training a horse to do new things or do things better.I went to the orthodontist today, to get molds for my braces. It was horrible. They take this huge piece of plastic and put it in your mouth, then load it up with this nasty stuff that is like mashed potatoes. You get to pick which flavor you want though. Almost all of the flavors are nasty except for the strawberry kind, which I tried. I can't believe it took so long to mention this, but they announced the release date for the next Harry Potter movie, which hasn't even been filmed yet. It is November 21, 2006, which is 8 days before my 14th birthday! Here is a picture of Sydney jumping Victor at camp. The stuff that looks like blood is paint! @ndy |

August 14, 2006 - 2:12 PM Camping and Lendon Grey's Dressage ShowI finally got back to my computer! It has been over a week since I blogged, so I will start with camp first.I had a great time! We got there around nine and helped set. up. Then I got people ready for their rides (ahh, the power you gain when you become a C!), pretty uneventful. Broom polo was fun to watch that night and Sydney dominated. Later we went on a hayride out into the woods, and toasted marshmallows. The campfire was right by the water pump, and we almost tossed one of the campers, Mackey, into the water! On the way back the woods were dark and then the tractor stopped and the driver told everybody a story about a bear: A horse named Brookwood, I think, was being ridden through the woods, and when out of nowhere a wild bear attack the rider. The rider fell off and died and the horse got close-lined by a branch and broke its neck. The horse was buried (this is all happening at the farm we camped at), near a jump. Then the guy said that the bear was never found and that they sometimes come into tents at the barn. At this point Sydney was screaming and some girls checked the woods, but then the driver started driving off, and then they had to run to get back on.Lots of people chickened out of staying in the tents, but Sydney, my sister, and I were tough, and lived to tell this story. After we got off tractor the three of us and Dylan went to their trailer to hang our Solar Showers. Sydney and Ariel went first, and you could hear then talking about how cold it was. I went next, and I can tell you having cold, unpressured water hose you down was just as I remembered it. We stayed up pretty late talking, and finally, after removing several spiders from the tent, because Sydney was screaming, we went to bed. Let's just say that we were lucky to have sweat shirts on. It was in the 50s!!!! I woke up to find that Sydney was sleeping in the crack between the 2 air mattresses, and then I finally got up and we all piled onto the same air mattress with 3 blankets on us. The next day I walked the trail ride with some friends, and we looked at the rock with the horses name on it. It said "Brookwood, 1976-2001, None Better". That was weird. Then we set up our gambler's choice jump. Here is a photo of it. It looked pretty unimpressive at the front, but it had water under it in a tarp, and had things floating around in it. We had a toy fish that was supposed to swim around, but had no batteries. We went home around 7 that night to get ready to go the next day to New York. NY was awesome, and the drive up was an extremely boring 10 hours. We got their and set up, and the tack-room was awesome. Ariel placed in the top 10, and had some great tests. Our hotel was really weird. My aunt and uncle came to watch, and when you turned on the heat in their room, the fire alarm went off. He went to the front desk to ask about it, and the guy just "Oh, yeah, just hit the switch to turn it off! What!?" All the girls on Ariel's team were really nice, and they all had a great time. And after all the excitement I just remembered that school starts next weeks, nooooooo!!!!!!!! @ndy |

July 31, 2006 - 10:31 AM Post Breyer FestGreetings!I didn't have a chance to blog during BF (Breyer Fest). But here is a post BF blog. As we were driving up, the strangest revelation hit my aunt. She forgot her tickets! She called her nice friend, Mark, who mailed them via FedEx for morning delivery. You will see why this was so important later. About 5 hours later (literally) we reached the hotel, Embassy Suites. It was really cool, and nice. The people there are really nice, and I mean everybody. Even the towel guy would say hi and stuff. There was also a very talented cook who made excellent breakfast and was funny! Not soon after we checked in, we had dinner at the exact same Cracker Barrel my aunt and I had the rubber fish incident at during Rolex! After heading to the business center in the morning, we got my aunt's tickets, and then headed off to BF at the Kentucky Horse Park. We got our tickets and then went around passing out flyers for the Savvy Goffert model contest. People took really well to the idea, and whenever we left a stack at a location we would come back to find it gone! Our real luck came right before Belinda rode Goffert. My aunt gave a flyer to the person next to us, and then everybody else wanted one. After giving them out to several sections, Belinda came in and performed her freestyle. Anyone who was really familiar could tell Goffert was not warmed up enough. Though it didn't really show, which is saying alot for both Belinda and Herbie. After her ride, I handed out a ton of flyers; we went and picked up our free models of Joker, the celebration horse. Guess what? We got 5!!! One for each person in my family! And guess what was the best part? We found a dealer that would trade them for store credit!!!!!! The dealers were not allowed to get these models because they were exclusively for BF, so they could only trade them. After that we went to the racing Hall of Champions. It was fun to see old race horses like Da Hoss. Then the funniest thing went on. They let loose about 40 miniature horses and let them run around freely in a ring for 2 minutes. Then they had to catch them!!! It took them forever, but I got good photos that will come tomorrow. My sister bought a model of the Cleveland Bay, and a cool bridal for it. Then we headed back to the hotel and swam for a bit. We go the idea of putting a table in our window and drawing the curtains around it and then putting the Breyers you bought their as a display. A lot of people did it. Then we did the biggest part, if you believe in horse trading (we really don't collect too much). You go over to the Holiday Inn Express, and people set out all their Breyers, and you go into their hotel rooms and trade with them. That wasn't even the biggest part. Then you go into the official swap meet and they have pro dealers their. The next day was the most exciting. They had a ticket they gave you in your ticket pack that was for a special trip to the official Breyer Store. You had the opportunity to purchase 2 limited edition models only sold at BF, there we about 12 different ones to choose from. For instance they had a horse called Maximus that was $45 (the cheapest, they go up to $250) and they only had 1000 of them at the whole BF. My aunt gave me her ticket because she had 276. They had 3 lines formed a day, and we were in the second on Saturday. There was a catch, though. They would draw a random ticket number, and that person would start the line (ex.-number 256 is drawn, 256 starts the line, and 255 goes to the end of line). After exchanging 2 Jokers, my sister bought her horse Odyssey, and I got a bridal and saddle (I was hoping to put it on my limited edition model if I got one, I had my eye on a horse named Ringmaster, a liver chestnut pinto). Not long after, my dad and I got in line waiting for the number to be drawn. The number was 215, and I was 276. If I had not used my aunt's FedExed ticket, I would be about 20 people behind where I was then. After waiting several minutes, I went into the special edition line. It was nerve racking watching the people in front of us all getting the horse I wanted; they only had about 200 models of each kind available. But I got mine, and I can tell you, if I had not gotten my aunt's ticket, I would not have gotten Ringmaster. I was extremely lucky to get one of the only 1000 ever made in the world. We watched Belinda ride her freestyle again, and Goffert was much better, and did a really nice freestyle. We got to look in and see what the Breyer Horse Show was like, but we caught them at awards, so we didn't see much. Then we went back to the hotel, and had cocktails in the lobby (best Shirley Temples in the world!), with the idea of going to see a movie later. After finding that the tack I bought fit Ringmaster perfectly, and looked really good, we put him in our window display, and found movie times. So, we headed off to the cinema at 7:15 to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 2 for a second time. I was great again. After a quick breakfast, we headed off for home, and here I am now! We got a host of new prizes for Savvy, so enter those contests! A quick not before I am done, check out Ariel's blog, she has cool new stuff up, including a Behind the Model column! @ndy |

July 25, 2006 - 1:44 PM Breyer Fest & USPC ChampionshipsMy plan is that soon after Breyer Fest I'll be able to post more pictures on the blog, Now that I have extra memory cards I won't be filling them up so fast - and you know how it can take awhile to download and make space.

July 11, 2006 - 8:05 PM Breyer FestI just finished riding, for once in the evening instead of the morning, because our ring flooded. Here is a photo taken today with Red performing a nice halt. The other is a name plate I made for Red a while back, with his show name. The next big event for us is Breyer Fest. Ariel and Iare going as part of the Savvy Team with my mom and dad. You can count on lots of pictures and an article. I'm really excited about going because there will be national champion minis, trick horses and our favorite, Goffert [aka Herbie] the Breyer Friesian model for this year. I'll also be going to New York with my sister to the Lendon Gray Dressage4Kids Festival as a spectator. That will bring in some good photos as well! @ndy Links: [ Breyer Fest Info ] [ Lendon Gray's Dressage 4 Kids ] |
